Laser Metal Fusion (LMF) process

C. Hafner and Trumpf Laser- und Systemtechnik GmbH are working together to develop the Laser Metal Fusion (LMF) process for serial production of Jewellery, Watch and industrial parts in precious metal. The three central process components - the TruPrint system from Trumpf, the associated noble metal alloy powders from C. Hafner as well as specific parameters - are perfectly matched together.

The TruPrint 1000, which is designed as a compact and robust machine for the generative production of small series, is particularly suitable for this purpose. The powder range includes a platinum-gold alloy, two palladium-based white gold alloys, a yellow gold alloy (3N), a rose gold alloy (4N) and a red gold alloy (5N), and noble metal alloys, e.g. PtIr20 are available on demand. For these precious metal alloys, parameter sets are developed specifically for Jewellery and Watch applications in order to fit the machine and the powders mentioned.

The focus is on achieving a high density and a uniform structure with at least the same physical properties as cast or machined products, like it is the case with semi-finished products.
